Kiss My Face

As you all know I am not a fan of shampoo.  It strips my hair of the moisture that my curls need and love.  I've been using Jamaican Black soap for a while now, but when I went to Whole Foods to pick up another bar, they were out!  So yall know I panicked right, lol!!!!!!  I stayed in their for over an hour trying to find something to cleanse my hair with!  I ended up purchasing some Kiss My Face Miss Treated Shampoo.  Heres the 411 on it.......

Kiss My Face describes it as follows.........

Treat your mistreated hair to a life-enhancing experience. Bring back shine and bounce with natural and organic herbs and extracts while soothing the scalp with pure essential oils. Kiss My Face Miss Treated Shampoo gently cleanses without drying or stripping color. It's nourishing, effective and aromatherapeutic to leave your locks luminous and your spirits uplifted.
I will say that it did make my scalp feel great!  Very soothing!  But it does have a strong fragrance being that its all natural.

The most important part.....the Ingredients......
Aloe Barbadensis*, Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract*, Chamomilla Recutitia (Chamomile) Flower Extract*, Melissa Offcinalis (Lemon Balm) Leaf Extract*, Urtica Dioca (Nettles) Leaf Extract*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract*, Calendula Officinlis (Marigold) Flower Extract*, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract*, Olefin Sulfonate, Cocomidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride (Sea Salt), Caprylic Acid, Glycine, Hydrolized Rice Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Cymbopogon Martini (Palmerosa) Oil, Panthenol, Tocopherol, Cyclomethicone, Dimethiconol, Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus) Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid. *organic

Wonderful ingredients :)

I've only used it once, and I will say this, I actually like it!  My hair wasn't dry and it didn't feel like hay, lol!!!!

The Curly Girl Method

1 of my natural hair twins started doing this years ago, so when I went natural I followed right in behind her, lol!  What am I referring to?  The Curly Girl Method of course!  People ask me all of the time why and how is my hair so healthy and I truly believe that its because I follow this method.
The curly girl method (also referred to as "no-poo") is based on the book "Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey. The nickname "no-poo" alludes to not using a sulfate shampoo, because sulfates' tend to strip the hair of its natural oils. Once you take away the sulfates, your hair can retain its natural moisture.  Im not sure about you, but after I would shampoo my hair, it would feel sooooooo dry!  It would take a couple of days for me to even like my hair after I shampooed it!
Below I have listed the steps that you can take if you want to follow the Curly Girl Method!  Enjoy!

  1. Clarify with a sulfate shampoo (for the last time) before beginning
  2. Replace your brush and wide-toothed comb with your fingers
  3. Stop shampooing your hair
  4. Wash your scalp with conditioner (conditioner washing)
  5. Do the final rinse of your hair with cool or cold water.
  6. Apply products to your hair
These are the steps that I follow, and my hair has never been healthier!

Natural of the Week

Each week I am going to showcase 1 beautiful natural!  Who better to start this off than me :)  If you are interested in being featured on my blog, shoot me a message!

How long have you been natural?
My last relaxer was 4/28/09, and I Big Chopped on 4/28/10, so I've been 100% natural for almost 21 months!
What is your current regimen?
It all depends on what my hair needs at the time, or what style I am trying to achieve.  My cleanse/co-wash/condition steps are always the same tho.  If I have scalp buildup, I cleanse my hair with Jamaican Black Soap that I purchase from Whole Foods Market.  If I just need/want to wash my hair I use Tresemme Naturals Conditioner.  I also detangle with my fingers with this same conditioner.  I deep condition with Miss Jessie's products.  I use her Rapid Recovery Treatment 1 week, and her Super Sweetback Treatment the next week.  I also add coconut oil before I apply my DC's.  Then I sit under the dryer for 30 minutes.  After I rinse that out, I apply Kinky Curly Knot Today, Curls Milkshake by CURLS, and coconut oil.  Then I proceed to style, using whatever styler is needed at that time.

What is your favorite style?
This is a hard 1 for me, because I get into my moods, lol!  Meaning sometimes I want huge hair, sometimes I want super defined hair, sometimes I want straight hair and sometimes I want super curly hair!  I really love all styles!

How often do you press/flat iron your hair?
Only twice a year because I don't want to damage my hair.  Healthy hair is very important to me!  This was the last time that I got my hair straightened in October 2011, I was 18 months post BC.

What would you like to say to the other naturals that are reading this right now?
Going natural was the best thing that I could have ever done for my hair!  I've researched and studied this process, and i am delighted that you are visiting my blog!  I also have a Facebook group that's called Natural and Fabulous.  I also have a YouTube channel, my username is NaturalModelB!
